How to Get a Referral to the Greenleaf Medical Clinic

You’ve tried it all — over-the-counter meds, prescriptions, topicals, even physical therapy — but the pain still lingers. Or maybe it’s the anxiety that won’t let up, or the sleep that never seems to come. At this point, you might be wondering: could medical cannabis be the missing piece?

You’ve heard about medical cannabis helping people like you, but your doctor hasn’t brought it up. And you’re not about to start guessing your way through something this important. You just want to know: Is this actually a real option? Is it safe? Will it work for someone like me? At the Greenleaf Medical Clinic, we are a research-based medical practice focused on achieving real results for our patients. Our care is guided by licensed medical professionals using evidence-based treatment plans tailored to your individual needs.

In this blog, you’ll learn how medical cannabis can help with symptoms like pain, anxiety, sleep issues and more — and what to do if your doctor doesn’t know how to get you started.

Why Your Doctor Might Not Mention Cannabis

Most doctors aren’t trained in cannabis medicine — not because they’re against it, but because it’s not part of standard medical education. That’s why many patients are referred to clinics like Greenleaf.

Think of us as specialists. We collaborate with your doctor, not replace them, bringing research-backed cannabis expertise to your care plan.

How Medical Cannabis Helps — Backed by Science

Medical cannabis isn’t a cure-all, but it can be a powerful tool for managing symptoms that haven’t responded to other treatments. Research shows it may help reduce chronic pain, ease anxiety, improve sleep, and support conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, PTSD, and other conditions. For some, it means fewer prescriptions; for others, it offers relief without the side effects of traditional meds.

Cannabis supports the body’s endocannabinoid system — which helps regulate pain, mood, and sleep — and can restore balance when the body is out of sync. For many, cannabis becomes a meaningful part of a bigger care plan — offering real relief under expert guidance.

Why Greenleaf Medical Clinic is the Trusted Referral Choice

When it comes to medical cannabis, expertise matters. You need more than access — you need safe, personalized guidance that actually works.

What to Expect — The Patient Journey

Step 1: Ask for a Referral

Let your doctor know you’re interested in exploring medical cannabis and would like a referral to Greenleaf. If they’re unsure how to help, you can direct them to our website or provide our referral form — we’ve made it simple for healthcare providers to connect their patients with us.

How to Ask Your Doctor for a Referral

Bringing up medical cannabis with your doctor might feel a little uncomfortable — especially if you’re not sure how they’ll respond. But here’s the good news: you’re not asking them to prescribe it directly. You’re simply asking for a referral to a clinic that specializes in it.

Here’s an easy way to start the conversation:

“I’ve been reading about medical cannabis and I’m interested in exploring whether it could help with my [pain/anxiety/sleep issues/etc.]. I understand that it’s not something all doctors prescribe directly, but I’d like to be referred to the Greenleaf Medical Clinic. They work with patients and doctors to create personalized, evidence-based treatment plans.”

Most doctors appreciate a straightforward, informed request — and many are relieved to know there’s a trusted clinic they can refer their patients to. If your doctor needs more information, you can direct them to greenleafmc.ca.

If you’ve been wondering whether medical cannabis could be the missing piece in your treatment plan, now is the time to explore it — safely, professionally, and with the right support.

Step 2: Your Initial Virtual Consultation

Once we receive your referral, our team will contact you and email you our patient intake forms. As soon as we receive the completed forms, we will schedule your appointment. The consultation takes place via telehealth and is conducted by a licensed physician who specialises in cannabinoid medicine. You’ll have time to talk through your symptoms, your treatment history, and any questions or concerns you might have.

Step 3: Personalized Treatment Plan

If medical cannabis is appropriate, the physician will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. This includes product recommendations, dosages, and clear instructions. Your plan will be managed by our dedicated Treatment Plan Expert, who will ensure you feel supported and confident about using your medication

Step 4: Accessing Your Medication

After your appointment, we’ll send you a registration link to register with a Health Canada–approved Licensed Producer. This is where you’ll order the products outlined in your treatment plan. All medical cannabis products are shipped directly to your home, usually within a few business days. If you need help navigating the registration or ordering process, our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Step 5: Ongoing Support and Follow-Up

Your care doesn’t end after your first appointment. We provide follow-up appointments to check on how things are going, adjust your treatment plan if needed, and answer any new questions you may have. We also share updates with your referring doctor to keep them informed about your progress.

Common Questions, Answered

Will I feel high?
No — that’s not the goal of treatment. Many plans focus on CBD-dominant products that provide symptom relief without any intoxicating effects. If your plan includes THC, our protocol is to work with you to find a subperceptual dose — the dose just before impairment. Your doctor will recommend a low starting dose and guide you step-by-step to find your optimal level for symptom relief without feeling high.

Do I have to smoke it?
No — most of our patients use non-smoking formats like oils, capsules, sprays, or edibles.

Is it legal?
Yes — medical cannabis has been legal in Canada since 2001.

Will it interfere with my other meds?
This is why a consultation with a physician is so important. Our doctors carefully review your medication history to make sure your treatment plan is safe and won’t interfere with anything else you’re taking.

What will people think?
Stigma is fading fast. More Canadians are choosing cannabis for evidence-based relief — and you’re making an informed decision for your health.
